Notes |
1 | All codes (except as noted) work for Luigi as well as Mario. |
2 | You can do a lot of stuff with this code! At the title screen, press up or down and you can select from stages 1-8 to start on!!! If that's not enough, press A to add 5 more lives to start with!!! You can do this until you have 99 lives. Now, when you start the game, you'll have one of every item in the game, plus two full rows of P-Wings!!!! While playing the game, you can press SELECT to switch your current power up!!! If you hold B, then press select, you can toggle.....THE SHOE!!!! This can be done on any level, and won't freeze the game!!! |
3 | This one isn't so obvious, as when you start the timer still says 300. But, when it hits 99, it won't make the hurry up sound, and after hitting 0, it will go back up to ?99. This repeats 6 times. Warning: In some castles, your time will start at 0! |
4 | You must be Raccoon Mario for the next code to work. |
5 | e.g. If you were "Fire Mario" on the map screen, then entered an action scene, died or changed to "Frog Mario,"you would return to the map scene as "Fire Mario". |
6 | If you don't have turbo, you can't jump very high. You try to swim, but don't get very high. If you do have turbo, you can swim AND fly. You must be small for the effect to work. |
7 | Get one coin and your coin amount shoots up. As you get more coins it goes up faster and you can be up to 99 lives before passing the first level. |
8 | Get rich fast, plus one screen length is normal, then the next one is black, the next one is normal and so on. |
9 | In SMB3, the lost levels have been a huge thing among hardcore players There are supposedly a ton of lost levels in this game. Some are for the most part, complete. Others are rather unusual for the most part There are many theories as to why these levels were canned.
-They're too easy. -They're too difficult. -They're not complete. Whatever the reason, the levels have been canned, there's no question about it. The big mystery is to what the lost levels are, and how to get to them. There is an exception, however. There's one Game Genie code that sheds light to one of the lost levels.
AOZULT (Source Unknown)
This is the most famous of the Lost Levels, the sinking ice level. The code works by instantly transporting you to this level. Even if you do beat it, you'll still be playing it again and again until you reset the game. This level looks as if it could be used in level 6.
One day, looking around the GameFAQs boards, I noticed that my good buddy, David Wonn, had a "Debug Mode" code. This code was a huge find. With the code, you would have an instant stage select at the title screen, and when you press "A", you'd get five extra lives, which can repeated twice. You could also choose your power-up right on the level, start with many items, and not die when time ran out.
KKKZSPIU (Source: David Wonn)
The most important thing I noticed is that of the level select. Doing some research, I tested the code that brought you to the ice level on level 1. I tested it on worlds 2-8. Here is a full list of what I found as a result of doing this:
Level 2: Empty Hammer Bros. Level Level 3: Empty Hammer Bros. Level Level 4: Empty Hammer Bros. Level Level 5: Empty Hammer Bros. Level Level 6: Empty Hammer Bros. Level Level 7: Empty Hammer Bros. Level Level 8: Copy of world 7-8, with garbaged enemy at the beginning.
As you see, there appear to be a ton of Hammer Bros. levels hidden in the game's data. But there's one exception, which is level 8. There appears to be a strange enemy there, and a re-creation of level 7-8. The thing that makes me curious is why would the programmers have a copy of a level already created?
Deciding to look into the situation further, I looked through my already downloaded Super Mario Bros. 3 Discombobulator level editor. I did the "Enter Level" command on the start square on each of the levels. Sure enough, it led me to a new fact, that the levels I had already found a while ago were stored in the Start square! It appears that the programmers had used these squares to store some levels, but had disabled the entrance to these levels, rather than delete the level entirely.
After more research, it currently appears that there is a new map screen! However, it is rather jumbled and everything. This level is Level 0! Whether or not this refers to a level 0, a level 10, or any other level isn't really known at this moment. It can be found if you put an action square on a part of the map in the Warp Zone world that is not aligned with any of the other pipes vertically. (It's best if you put it on the left side), and go in. It's very flashy, and has a ton of weird things in it, but you can't do anything in there, as the starting point is off the screen. From what I see, this is either a partially-deleted level, or a partially made level, as when you try to mess around with any of the stage select Game Genie codes, that you'll either get nothing, or end up at one of the other levels with a different music and an odd starting point.
Speaking of the Warp Zone world (Level 9), it appears there's a few jumbled levels in there as well! Whether or not these levels are playable is not known at this time. These are only levels I have viewed in the Super Mario Bros. 3 Discombobulator. They appear to only be partially-made levels in the game data, for I have not seen an end to them. It currently appears that there are more levels in the game data than originally thought. However, it cannot be |
