It seems like every time I turn around I'm faced with an issue of censorship, more specifically, censorship of so-called "foul" language. What jackass determined that people shouldn't be allowed to say words like "shit" and "bitch"? What exactly is "offensive" about the word 'shit'?
I think part of the reason I got a rant section on GSC before is that the owners needed the "swearing" off the main page. Why? Well, it just so happens that those places that you can signup at to put banners on your site and get paid for it have restrictions against any site that uses "foul" language on their main page. What the hell ever happened to freedom of speech? What? I can't say things like "I got the shit kicked outta me on Halo today" ? How can that possibly be offensive? How can anyone legally keep someone from saying that? Answer: THEY CAN'T! It's that simple. Even "profanity" is protected by the 1st Amendment. If you go to www.georgecarlin.com and read the "Supreme Court Decision" in the Documents section, you'll see what I mean about the 1st Amendment. I'll quote the part that doesn't contain "offensive" language...

The following is directly quoted from the Supreme Court Decision of FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION v. PACIFICA FOUNDATION, 438 U.S. 726, 98 S.Ct. 3026 (1978).
Mr. Justice STEVENS (delivering the majority opinion)
This case requires that we decide whether the Federal Communications Commission has any power to regulate a radio broadcast that is indecent but not obscene.
A satiric humorist named George Carlin recorded a 12-minute monologue entitled "Filthy Words" before a live audience in a California theater. He began by referring to his thoughts about "the words you couldn't say on the public, ah, airwaves, um, the ones you definitely wouldn't say, ever." He proceeded to list those words and repeat them over and over again in a variety of colloquialisms. The transcript of the recording, which is appended to this opinion, indicates frequent laughter from the audience.

The words of the Carlin monologue are unquestionably "speech" within the meaning of the First Amendment. . . .

You can't begin to imagine how gratifying it is for me to read about people winning these cases against conservative, censor-happy types. The People vs Larry Flynt happens to be one of my favorite movies, in case you hadn't guessed. So why can people still censor this language? Hey, that religous stuff that some people like to talk about can be considered "offensive" to Athiests, but I don't see those damn church shows getting cancelled, do you? Who the hell watches those, anyway? Eh, I'll save that rant for some other time. lol
I actually got kicked out of a gym once, because there was a shriveled up old guy in charge. What did I do wrong? Nothing, I'm a good player, but I was wearing my "Official Stone Cold, 'Other Side Jackass' T-shirt" That I bought from the WWF. If it's ok for the WWF to sell those, then it's ok for me to pay $25 or $30 for one and wear it anywhere I damn well please. I've been planning, for quite some time, to get a decal or 2 made for my '85 Ford Ranger to make it look like Stone Cold Steve Austin's first truck in the WWF. I dunno how many people remember it, but it had a big Austin 3:16 skull on the hood and "100% Pure Whoop Ass" on the tailgate. They gave it away to a WWF fan in a drawing they had at the Royal Rumble a few years ago. I woulda done it by now if I hadn't wasted so much money on next gen systems.
What about on network tv? They censor stuff on the Tonight show (and other shows) and it's completely stupid! Which would you rather hear: the word "shit" or that damn "BEEEEEP"? I wanna hear what the hell the person is saying instead of getting/aggravating a headache because of that damn "BEEEEEP" sound. "Yeah, let's just drown out the person's voice with that annoying beep sound and make people think the emergency broadcast system is about to interupt their favorite show so they change the channel." Piss on that. And what about movies? Why show movies on tv if you're gonna chop them to shit? I mean how dumb does it sound when some channel puts on Die Hard 2 and you hear Bruce Willis talking, then all of a sudden you hear his voice change and call someone an "airhead" instead of an "asshole" like he really said. What ever happened to copyright laws? Networks shouldn't be able to screw with the content of the movie that they're airing. "Oh no, Bruce Willis said 'asshole'! Let's edit it to make him sound like a pussy!"
George Orwell once said, "If Liberty means anything, it means the right to tell people what they don't wanna hear."
Free Speech is Free Speech! Stop trying to silence people!
